Astercantha longifolia is an edible plant rich in mucilage, which belongs to the family Acanthaceae. Although the plant has been used traditionally, there is no report on isolation and characterisation of mucilage from Astercantha longifolia. The present work was aimed to isolate and characterise the mucilage from the aerial parts of Astercantha longifolia.
